You must be at least 18 years old, physically fit, able to work hard and have a head for heights. A driving licence is desirable, but not essential. Our work is mainly carried out Monday to Friday during normal working hours, but you must be available for ‘out-of-hours’ and Sunday work when this arises. You must also be available for regular Saturday morning work and occasional work away-from-home.

You will be joining an established company that has a good track record for training and a reputation for the quality of its scaffolders. Your employment will be based in Northampton, so you must live within easy travelling distance as you may need to start early or finish late. Our work is generally within a 40-mile radius of Northampton, but can be anywhere.

Scaffolding is a well-paid profession. Starting salaries are around £13,000 per annum, rising after basic training to around £33,000 per annum. Top chargehands earn around £50,000 per annum. Remember however that scaffolding is a very physical profession. You will be lifting and carrying heavy materials all day and you will be doing it in all weathers and all conditions.

On joining the company as an apprentice, you will serve a number of weeks in our warehouse, learning how to handle and service scaffold materials, loading and unloading lorries. We will send you on a COTS course which will then enable you to obtain a CISRS trainee scaffolder card.

In due course you will begin to work on site where you will first learn to labour and then to scaffold. As you gain practical experience and skills, we will send you initially on a scaffolder part 1 course and, eventually on a scaffolder part 2 course. Within 6 months of your part 2 course, you should be able to obtain your basic scaffolder card.

All our operatives have the opportunity of continuing their training to advanced scaffolder level. In addition to the above, you will also attend IPAF, Confined Space and SSSTS courses to compliment your scaffolding skills. Some operatives gain their HGV licence with us.
